Cybersecurity Governance: Best Practices for general counsels and executives

Cyberattacks are among the fastest-growing forms of crime worldwide and they are becoming more sophisticated, targeted, widespread and difficult to detect. Senior management, under the oversight of the board of directors, are responsible for managing cybersecurity and broader data security risks within the organisation and, as a result, need to focus their attention on establishing proper cybersecurity governance procedures, providing guidance for the preparation for and actions during an ongoing cybersecurity breach.

Henrik Wållgren, partner at Cederquist, is specialised in equity capital markets and corporate governance, and is one of the team members that provide guidance and specific recommendations on cybersecurity governance to senior executives and boards of directors.

– Cybersecurity has become a top priority for organisations, necessitating significant attention from senior management and boards of directors. While compliance with laws and regulations is essential, it is no longer sufficient to protect against rapidly evolving cyber risks, says Henrik.

Henrik Wållgren continues:

– It is still a widespread misconception that cybersecurity is a matter of concern mainly for the IT and tech teams in organisations. In our view, legal teams and others with a general responsibility for corporate governance have important roles to play in strengthening their organisation’s cybercrime readiness. Hence, Cederquist will be holding a seminar on cyber resilience directed at general counsels and executives.

The goal of the seminar, says Henrik, is not to turn everyone into technical experts but instead to increase the awareness of the legal teams and provide a roadmap for strong cyber risk management:

– The seminar will provide general counsels, legal teams and corporate governance officers with clear and actionable guidance on how to strengthen their organisations’ cyber risk governance and protect their organizations from cyber threats.

Cederquist’s seminar on cyber resilience will be held on 10 April. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to discuss these issues with Cederquist’s specialists together with experts from CSIS Security Group.
